Diva Dweller Profile: Hollie and Dave

We have know Hollie and Dave for over almost 7 years and in that time they have long since stopped being clients and have become friends. We have helped them buy and sell seven homes from Leschi to Queen Anne and from Seattle to Ellensburg. And this last one may just be their “forever” view home in West Seattle. They have honed their instincts over time, which means there has not been one bad investment in this mix. Finding Their “Forever” Home When Hollie first saw the photos of their current home on Redfin, they weren’t exactly attention-grabbing. But being the detail oriented gal she is, something in the marketing remarks made her stop and take notice. And once she did, my phone started ringing. All she had to say was “I think this is the one” and Chavi and I were in the car. Hollie and Dave had been… Read More »

Winter in West Seattle: Five Spots to Help You Get Cozy

Over in West Seattle, there are so many cute spots to get cozy. Instead of moping at home, a change of scenery or some good take-out can help lighten the mood. You may already know about the good stuff in the Junction, but what about the area around Delridge and White Center? These areas are overlooked by people from outside West Seattle, but much beloved by those who know better. Here are five spots that offer warm treats, comfy seats, and fun crowds. Skylark Cafe This eclectic venue doubles as a cafe and music venue. Deli-style eats during the week, brunch on the weekend, Taco Tuesdays, cocktails at night: Skylark Cafe has a little of everything. Near nightly events include Trivia Mondays, live music, and the drag extravaganza, West End Girls on the last Saturday of each month. Moonshot Coffee The aesthetic at Moonshot Coffee has that ubiquitous minimalist cafe… Read More »

Eating Out West: 5 Great Under-the-Radar Restaurants in West Seattle

Finding great restaurants outside the core areas is a really fun part of living in the city. Whether tucking into a tiny noodle house in the International District or getting the freshest seafood in Fisherman’s Wharf by Magnolia, we all need a culinary adventure from time to time. Why not try out one of the many superb spots in West Seattle? In summer especially, people flock to Alki Beach for the beach views, and there are some nice dining options there for sure. (La Rustica is one really fine example.) Salty’s is a major destination diner for tourists (and longtime locals), but there is so much more to West Seattle dining. Here are five restaurants in West Seattle that may not be known much outside their neighborhoods, but are worth a trip. Get Out in Gatewood This Weekend: 5 Things To Do

All you in Divaland know that we have a special place in our heart for West Seattle. It has such great vibes, lots of green spaces, and pockets of retail and nightlife with TONS of character. The most popular West Seattle destination in summer is probably Alki Beach, but there is so much to explore on the south side, too. This weekend, we’re expecting more warm weather (but not too much intense sun) and we’re heading to Gatewood. Here are five things we think you’ll love in this part of West Seattle. See The Sound and Take a Swim at Lincoln Park A post shared by Don Wind (@thedonwind) on May 27, 2018 at 7:39pm PDT The rocky shores of Lincoln Park offer sweeping views of the Sound, the islands, and the Olympics…even the Vashon Island ferry leaving from the Fauntleroy terminal adds a picturesque quality. That’s not all, though.… Read More »

Party! Miss Bacon Strip 2018 This Weekend, Saturday, May 5

There are few shows as consistently, outrageously funny (and sexy!) as the long-running drag-stravaganza Bacon Strip, hosted by Sylvia O’Stayformore and Mizz Honey Bucket. This special show will draw a larger crowd, so they are switching the venue to South Park Hall. Get to West Seattle this Saturday, May 5, because you won’t want to miss this hot, hilarious mess crowing the next Miss Bacon Strip. For those who don’t know the drill: Bacon Strip features multiple acts from a slew of local drag performers, many of whom run on the edgier side. Expect filthy songs, twisted attire, and surreal performances…and of course complimentary bacon served by hot go-go boys. This time, the performers will be competing with each other for the title of Miss Bacon Strip. The queen who takes the crown also receives a luxurious new wig designed by Seattle drag legend Coco Vaughn, $125 and–in the words… Read More »

It’s A Good Dog’s Life in Fairmount, West Seattle

You’d think that with how many dogs there are in Seattle, we’d run the town a bit more. (In 2016, Zumper ranked Seattle as the #2 most pet-friendly city in the United States!) I guess I’m lucky to be in Fairmount, with so many dog-friendly places for me and my humans. I’ll miss this house and this neighborhood, but since you might live here next, I want to tell you my favorite things about it. Fairmount is Great For W – A – L – K’s Everyone loves a good car ride every now and then, but walks are THE BEST! Our house is great for that. There are little parks to rest in, and dog-friendly businesses to visit. There’s even the Beveridge Place Pub, where my humans get their own “happy hour” treats and daily specials. They sometimes have a hard time deciding, though, because there are so many… Read More »

Seattle is a City of Literature: 12 Local Bookstores We Love

Independent bookstores abound in Seattle. Some are quite unique. To mark this occasion we have to give some love to some of our favorites in some of the most vibrant and picturesque Seattle neighborhoods. Pioneer Square The heart of the art gallery scene is also home to some of the most exquisite book shops in town. It may have lost Elliott Bay Books a few years ago (we’ll get to them), but it has some truly incredible shops to fill your shelves. Arundel Books Arundel Books has that classic bookstore look: wheeled ladders, shelves towering overhead. In addition to rare books, it also sells limited edition broadsides of poetry, fit to be framed. It has its own press, too, which has produced a few art books, including one devoted to the art of Jane Richlovsky (which is always by the coffee table in the Divas’ living room). We are in… Read More »
