Why are Seattle houses so boring? In addition to the fact that Seattle’s weather turns gray for several months out of the year, so many new construction homes are beige and gray. Why oh why?! If you’re tired of boring homes, my listing in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood is anything but! This artistic South Park Cottage is bright, beautifully updated, and filled with unique touches. It even has a one-of-a-kind backyard getaway complete with original art (did I mention the seller is an artist?). And finally, this cottage is located in South Park, which is one of Seattle’s most under-appreciated neighborhoods.

This is Kim Colaprete with Team Diva at Coldwell Banker Bain, and today I’m showing off this artistic cottage in one of Seattle’s vibrant neighborhoods in South Park.

Are you bored of the cookie-cutter new construction that’s going up around our city right now? Are you tired of seeing the same old innocuous pale blue cabinets? Well, if you are done with boring real estate, then you are in the right place! I’m so excited to take you on a tour of my new listing in Seattle’s vibrant South Park neighborhood that is the antithesis of boring!

Why Are Seattle Houses So Boring?

If you’re wondering why are Seattle houses so boring? Then take a break from doom-scrolling beige and grey interiors and experience something truly special. Back in the olden days of owning real estate people were super creative with their homes. Do you think matching avocado appliances were a fad? No people wanted to make a bold statement about the homes they were living. Hence the reason we are all loving Kim’s new purple cottage in South Park.

The Purple South Park Cottage is Brimming With Custom Details

Where can find an affordable home that is not a cheezy flip or boring new construction? Well, right here in South Park! I’m thrilled to show off this artsy cottage, which is affordable and the complete opposite of boring and beige. I mean this home is freaking purple, and not just any purple; a luscious bold purple. And the inside is just as statement-making as the outside.

Our client bought this home in 2019 after it had been completely rebuilt in 2012. Before then, it was dark, cramped, and very run down. Now, it’s a bright shiny 2-bedroom cottage with a new roof, new kitchen, new bath, new siding, new paint, and new deck. New everything! The re-envisioned space also makes this home’s small footprint seem way bigger than it is. The layout does its best to make the most of the space. And there is also great flow from the main living space to the back deck and yard. Effortless indoor-outdoor living is my favorite and perfect for hosting during warmer months. This backyard is so cozy and super private, and it’s the perfect place to let your artistic side shine through.

If you haven’t guessed already, our seller is an artist, which I of course love. When we did the walk-through with her, we wanted to make sure we did what needed to be done to make the home sparkly but NOT take away any of its character. And I feel pretty confident that we succeeded.

One-of-a-Kind Backyard Getaway Where Art Lives

I already mentioned that our seller is an artist, but what I didn’t mention yet is that this home comes with some of her art. Look at the colorful metal flowers adorning the fence—they were all made by the seller in 2020! She loved how they looked on her fence, but got a little carried away and made way more than she could use.

At one point she was encouraged by a friend to sell them. She agreed and decided to give all the proceeds from the sales to help fund food tables in the neighborhood. In total, over $10,000 was donated to help her South Park neighbors in need. And now you can find these sweet metal flowers not just in this yard but in yards throughout the area.

This vibrant creativity is not just what makes this home special—it’s what makes the South Park neighborhood so special. This is a neighborhood that is truly represented by the word “community.” People make art, support each other, and improve their neighborhood in the process.

South Park is Seattle’s Most Under-Appreciated Neighborhood

Did you know that South Park is one of Seattle’s most under-appreciated neighborhoods? I would venture to guess many Seattleites have never even been to South Park and have no idea where it is. So, let me tell you about it! South Park in the valley just east of West Seattle’s Highland Park tucked along the west bank of the Duwamish River.

One of the things I love best about this neighborhood is its sense of community. As you can tell from seeing homes like this one, this neighborhood has been attracting artists for years and still does. Its affordability and “anything goes” vibe has invited a growing number of artists to make South Park their home. It’s this vibrancy and creativity that makes South Park a warm and welcoming place to live.

My first stop whenever I come to or through South Park is The Scene in South Park coffee shop. This place not only has great coffee but they are incredibly neighborhood-focused, everyone who works here is so friendly (and y’all know how Seattle service can be!), and the vibe is super chill. It’s a great place to hang out and worth the stop for a killer Cortado every time.

The other thing y’all need to know about this neighborhood is that there is more than just a cool coffee shop. There is Uncle Eddie’s Pub, where they have beers on tap, a full bar, and great pub grub, as they say. There is also a dizzying array of fab Mexican food options up and down 14th Ave S, there is Ceasar Chavez Park, and even a small natural wine shop and bar called Left Bank

And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that all these great spots are just a few blocks away from this super cool cottage! Are you thinking about making South Park your new home in Seattle? Give me a buzz and I’ll happily meet you at the Scene for coffee and show you around!
