Over the years we have sold many homes in Capitol Hill. This last Spring we had the extra special treat of selling our friends a home in Capitol Hill and it really felt like a true full circle experience.

Helping Friends Buy a Home in Capitol Hill: Alejandro & Ryan

We have been friends with Alejandro for almost ten years. When Alejandro and Ryan found each other we were so excited that a good friend of ours found the sweetest and most authentic human in the world or should we say in all of the gay Capitol Hill spots. This year we helped our two dear friends become “official” Diva Dwellers and this is their story.

The Background

We met Alejandro back in 2017 through a friend of an ex-boyfriend of a friend of ours. Ok – gay Seattle is like a lesbian romcom. Full stop!

Anyhoo Alejandro started dating Ryan right before the pandemic and they quickly had a connection. At the tail end of the pandemic we had the amazing opportunity to really connect wtih Ryan and now count these two as some of our closest friends.

But sometimes friends and real estate can be tough! Not in this situation. Cause when you know the Divas you are working with a lesbian power duo couple who trully care about our LGBTQ+ clients and understand their experiences.

Wants & Needs in a Home

We had been chatting with Jandro and Ryan about buying a home for a few years. We always knew their “go to” neighborhood would be Capitol Hill. Ryan and Alejandro definitely wanted to be within a few blocks of bars, restaurants, nightlife, and shopping. They loved where they were currently living on the Hill since it was just minutes to everything, and they rarely needed to use their car.

After doing our deep dive into their wants and desires, it was clear a townhouse was going to be the ideal style of home for them. They love to travel and entertain so they wanted open space for hosting but still something low maintenance and mostly move-in ready. They also were done with apartment-style living.

Touring Homes & Making an Offer

We spent one weekend looking at homes, and we saw 8 townhomes altogether. Some were brand new, some were slightly older. The last townhouse we saw that day they really liked and we decided to make an offer!

In order for it to financially work for them, we really needed some funds back from the seller. Unfortunately, that deal really never came together. Now, the house they did buy had been on the list to see that day and Jandro had also been watching it for months. BUT it was over their price point and even though it had been on the market for awhile (like 9 months!) we back-burnered it.

Finding The Ideal Home in Capitol Hill

After negotiations fell apart on the first deal, I think both Jandro and Ryan got a bit discouraged. So they decided to take a break and Chavi and I headed off to Lake Diva for our own break. Well, lo and behold, the day we left for the lake house, the townhouse we had all been watching had a $30K price drop! Now it was in the running.

Of course, Ryan called us that night and luckily our trusty colleague Terry was ready and willing to show them the townhouse on Saturday while we were away. Sure enough, it was love at first sight and, well, you know the story from there!

Sweet Success – Finding A Home In Capitol Hill

Once we knew this home was the one, we made the offer, did one round of negotiations, and BOOM! We were done. The seller was ready and these were the buyers this home had been waiting for. It was the price at the right time.

The Big Win

Getting our besties into a home they LOVE in Capitol Hill (and only minutes from our CBBain office)! Dare I say, there may be some spontaneous post-work happy hours in our future!
