Where Can You Buy a Home With Beach Access in Seattle?

Finding a home with beach access in and around Seattle is not as straightforward as you might think. Here are a few of our favorite neighborhoods with beach access.

Federal Way

First up, we are going to start down south in Federal Way! Today we are here in this adorable updated 1950s home that we just listed for our clients Martha and Vinny. They fell in love with this home as soon as they found it because of the huge lot, the fabulous studio space out back, and the wonderful Sound and mountain views. And besides getting to see the sunset over the Sound from the comfort of their living room, they also get to experience the shores of the Sound whenever they want. This Federal Way neighborhood of Adelaide offers private community beach access to homeowners for only $120/year. Just pay your dues, get your key fob, and boom! Beach time, anytime.

Redondo Beach in Des Moines

Des Moines View of the Sound

Redondo Beach is a small community in Des Moines. It used to be that just north of Federal Way was more of a resort area, but now has grown into more of a residential community. To call Redondo Beach quaint would be a bit of an understatement. Homeowners here enjoy lovely Sound views, easy access to the sandy beach for shell hunting, and a boardwalk perfect for a Sunday stroll. And there is even a Salty’s. So there’s no need to drive to West Seattle for your seafood brunch fix!

Normandy Park in Des Moines

Lot A The Cove in Normandy Park

If you are lucky enough to be a homeowner in The Cove community of Normandy Park, you get access to some pretty sweet amenities. The Cove includes about 1,800 homes, and of course, residents have access to the waterfront. Residents also get access to a community clubhouse, tennis courts, wooded trails, two creeks, and a duck pond. That’s some bougie fun times! And all this for only $55/year.

Three Tree Point in Burien

If Normandy Park seems a little too fancy pants for you, then just go a little further north into Three Tree Point. This neighborhood sits on a hilly outcropping that juts out to a point into the Sound, hence the name. We sold a fabulous mid-century home there during the pandemic with gorgeous Sound views. One of the reasons our clients loved this home so much (besides the view) was that they could go scoot down to the beach to swim or paddle board anytime. Here there are no clubhouses or tennis courts or amenities of any kind. But beach access is free and the water is just as lovely!

Shorewood in Burien

View of the Puget Sound From Shorewood

The neighborhood of Shorewood sits at the top of Burien but is really just blocks to Seattle’s White Center neighborhood. This community consists of about 452 homes that are part of the Shorewood Beach Community. This includes beach access and access to neighborhood trails and parks. This is an active community that also hosts events throughout the year. And the dues here are completely voluntary!

Alki in West Seattle

West Seattle Alki Beach

You can’t talk about beach access in Seattle without talking about Alki. Although the beach is accessible to the public, the folks who live in Alki have the special joy of being able to access this beach without fighting for parking. Live in a condo along Alki’s main drag and you also get Sound and mountain views! Or you may choose to forego the crowds and the views, and live a few blocks aways in the more residential area. Either way, the beach is yours year round for swimming, paddle boarding, diving, playing volleyball, or just chilling.

Blue Ridge in North Seattle

Blue Ridge Mid-Century Modern Modern Neighborhood

Blue Ridge sits right on the Sound in the far northwest corner of Seattle. It’s known for its panoramic views of the Sound and Olympics and for having some pretty sweet mid-century modern homes. The extra icing on this fancy pants cake is that if you own a home in the right location in Blue Ridge you can have access to the Beach park, pool and tennis courts. And all for only $1,490 a year. (I did say it was fancy pants.)
