The Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle was actually misnamed by a US Coastal worker who thought that the bluff’s beautiful Madrona trees were actually Magnolia trees, this gorgeous neighborhood (second largest in the city) of Seattle is the best of both worlds: small town living that is minutes from the city.
With an emphasis on community, this family focused area is home to the best and most expansive parks in the city. Mid-Century homes, Ladies Who Lunch, and spectacular architecture make up the city’s best kept secret for growing families. Essentially living on your own island, accessible by three bridges to the city (minutes from Ballard, Fremont, and downtown Seattle), you can hear the whistle of trains in the distance, watch the cruise ships coast away, and be surrounded by abundant wildlife while you run into your friend at The Village.
The Village is Magnolia’s premiere shopping district, with the neighborhood’s best restaurants, stores, and local businesses. Our favorites include Red Mill Burgers, Mondello Ristorante, and Wheeler Street Kitchen. The community is small enough that you will know your clerk’s name and see your neighbors while at brunch at Palisade, but up and coming enough that the younger crowd will keep everything fresh in Magnolia’s growing condo and townhome market. Magnolia is home to the oldest, most impressive homes in the city, especially on the bluff. We recommend taking out-of-towners on a tour of these incredible estates, as well as seeing insane views of the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.
City dwellers escape to Magnolia to take a hike through Discovery Park, the largest park in the city, and to see the most incredible and impressive views and houses on the bluff. Because of the higher elevation, views of West Seattle, Mount Rainier, the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound surround you, and are a plus side of living here and seeing these environmental gems through your window. Magnolia’s many parks will never disappoint, and is key to what brings this great community together.
