Last week, we had our big summer party, Divas Take America, and it was indeed our biggest yet! We did things a little differently this year, with an all-ages drag carnival to help fund activist organizations here in Washington. The #Resistance is strong in Divaland…and it is also outrageously fun.

Guests of all ages came together at Divas Take America in support of Washington’s Paramount Duty and Seattle Indivisible. WPD fights for equitable education funding and taxation. While Seattle Indivisible provides citizens with comprehensive guidance on key issues and activism strategies. Both are grass roots organizations that have already done amazing advocacy work in spite of being so new. In fact, this was the first official fundraiser for Seattle Indivisible!

We were so happy and excited to have FOUR mayoral candidates join us. Jessyn Farrell, Jenny Durkan, Cary Moon, and Nikkita Oliver. Each of these candidates responded to our Team Diva political questionnaire. Click on their names and see where they stand on the issues. They really got into the event and spent a lot of time conversing with other guests. While tipping drag queen Mackenzie Miller, Durkan even got pulled inadvertently into the performance and showed some dance moves of her own.

Not everyone was old enough to vote, of course. Kids got their faces painted, played carnival games, and took home balloon animals. And of course, we had six fantastic drag queens, including hosts Sylvia O’Stayformore and DonnaTella Howe. Things got pretty wild: Mackenzie Miller‘s served pizza-inspired couture and glittering “parmesan” showers. Stacy Starstruck looked like a babalicious Beetlejuice. Kara Sutra was fierce as ever, with ribbon dancing skills to boot and Strawberry Shartcake serenaded us, farmer’s daughter-style.

We had big tippers and little tippers–and by that, we mean even the kids got up and offered up some green to those hard-working queens. After all was said and done with tickets sales and donations, we raised over $3200, and had a blast doing it! Check out the photo evidence and highlight video below:
