This stunning Montlake home holds over 100 years of rich history inside its stately doors. Built by a local architect firm located in Madrona in 1910, this home went through many interesting periods of ownership before it was bought and lovingly updated by its current owners. During the war the home was converted to a boarding house and every room in the house was used to house a soldier in need. The upper sun porch even had the remnant of an old Murphy Bed still attached to the wall when it was purchased by the current owners in 2009. Some old room numbers still remain on the basement doors.  After the war, the home was own by a few single ladies and rumor has it this Montlake manor was used as a “house of ill repute” during this time. Although this might just be a rumor, it is not hard to imagine this home being transformed to one of the classiest of post war Bordellos.

When purchase in 2009 by the current owners, they meticulously went through the home, restoring some of the less than perfect woodwork, upgrading the kitchen, baths and lighting to keep within period style but still bringing the home to today’s standards and code. Most of the original details of the home still remain and are in excellent condition. The beauty of this home is in these  architectural details; the ribbon inlay floors, the box beam ceilings, the grand staircase and the rare J B Ownes tiled fireplace – just to name a few.

Many a fabulous event has taken place over the years in this grand Craftsman. Now it’s time for the current owners to say goodbye and open the doors for new memories to be made in this amazing home.
