This is Roy Powell with Team Diva at Coldwell Banker Bain. It’s been a rainy April, but the sun breaks the past few days have me excited to get my yard ready for summer here in Seattle. Curious about how to make your backyard ready for summer in Seattle with a little extra Diva flair? In this video, I am in my newest listing, which has an epic back deck. This is an inspiring place to highlight what you need to prepare your backyard for summer in Seattle.

5 Tips To Make Your Backyard Ready For Summer in Seattle

Let’s quickly review the basics of making a summer-ready backyard in Seattle. The most basic of which is comfortable, stylish outdoor furniture. I’d also add an umbrella, outdoor games, and a good cooler to that list. And there you go: the basics!

Now, let’s dig into the next-level summertime prep! Here is what you need to prepare your backyard for summer in Seattle:

Covered Deck Ready for Rain or Shine

If we’re talking summer vibes, why do I need a covered deck? The bottom line is that it rains in Seattle. Even in the summer, at times! Or it is a bit drizzly year-round. And at the same time, the summer gets so warm that suddenly we all wish we had AC. What I love about my latest listing (this Classic Lynnwood Home!) is that it has a 900-square-foot covered deck, which is perfect for year-round outdoor entertaining. It is pretty epic. You and your whole crew can have a cookout and be protected from our notorious finicky weather, be it rain or the hot summer sun.

BBQ Station for Outdoor Home Cookin’

Outdoor living is always better if you have a grilling station. Sometimes it can be a simple Weber and folding table. Or you can get super fancy with a custom-built outdoor kitchen space. But whatever you do, treat yourself and set up a chef’s station outside.

Flowers & Herbs for Style & Seasoning

Every outdoor BBQ station needs fresh herbs to bring life to your char-grilled treats. Plan on getting some pots and stocking them with your favorite herbs. They add delicious fresh flavor to almost any meal AND look beautiful growing on your deck. And of course, flower pots add a nice pop of color to any setting!

Illuminate Your Outdoor Summer Life in Seattle

Let’s not forget to add some lights to spice up the night in your Seattle summer backyard. I have so many fun memories hanging out with my crew on our deck and having the lights sparkle just right. My clients have these awesome bistro lights that make this deck even more epic. Get some lights and stretch them between the trees and your house. Trust me; it will transform your outdoor life.

Don’t Forget the Heat with Outdoor Fire Pit or a Heater

Did I mention it gets chilly in the evenings in Seattle, even during the summer? Consider getting yourself some outdoor heaters or a fire pit to make your backyard ready for summer in Seattle. My favorite is the Solo Stove. It is super contained and easy to store. Or you can get industrious and build yourself your own outdoor fire pit.

Bonus Tip: Have a Basket of Outdoor Blankets & Warm Things

Even with a roaring fire in the Solo Stove, I still have some friends who run cold and need an extra layer. At home, I have a basket of outdoor blankets that I keep on hand for guests. It makes your guest feel loved, and it keeps them hanging out with you longer.
