Divas also wanted to take a moment to express so much gratitude to one of our longest-term team members, Alex. She is more than a bookkeeper—she is a goddess here on earth. Alex’s strength of spirit and beauty is a true gift to all of us. Last year she helped steer this Team Diva ship through some extremely rocky weather and we are here because of her!
Alex was able to navigate applying for small business loans for the team. This directly translated to us being able to fully support folks like the marketing team. The support Alex provided meant we were able to carry the team while everyone found their footing during the quarantine. Thank you!!!!
What do you love?
Hexing the patriarchy, horses, social justice, sushi and being a mom.
What do you do every morning before getting into Diva mode?
I love when I can watch the sunrise, drink coffee, and read my NYT.
What do you like to do in your free time?
What’s “free time”?
What is your favorite local spot to grab a bite to eat?
During the Puh-naynay, we have been really loving the Corson Building’s weekly takeout menu, but our favorite burgers and tots are from Heyday.
What is your favorite morning beverage?
We drink PCC brand ultra dark from our ancient drip coffee maker. I take it creamy and sweet.
What is the best part of working with Team Diva?
Team Diva is an inspiration! Their business model has evolved and grown, but they have always kept their clients in center view. This is really where the heart and hustle make magic. I have been with The Team for over a decade now (!) and I can say that more than any of my clients, they work hard and play hard. There’s never a dull moment.
What is your favorite local non-profit organization?
The Big-Brained Superheroes Club! I have been a board member for 7 years and I love the amazing work they do. The BBSC is a STE(A)M program based in the Yesler Terrace Community Center. They put the kids in charge, asking them to exhibit their “super powers” of teamwork, adaptability, kindness, etc. Older students can be employed as “Big Brain Buddies,” holding clinics to help community members repair their laptops and cell phones, and helping the younger students with their projects. Younger students might build solar-powered sea creatures out of 100% recycled and found materials and then make movies about ocean life and pollution. The BBSC offers after school enrichment activities and homework help and they recently launched a scholarship program to help our graduating Buddies with tuition, rent and books as they go off to college. It’s incredibly amazing.
What is your favorite memory of working with the Team?
Omg – how to pick?! Walking into a house with Kim on a tour when she was helping us buy our first home. I burst into happy tears the minute we opened the front door and Jon, my husband, turned to Kim and said, “I guess this is the one.”
I also really loved officiating the Diva Wedding. I’ve performed a bunch of weddings, all for close friends and loved ones, but this one was a SPECTACLE, in all the most wonderful ways. Pure joy. I will never get over the honor of them choosing me for that role.
