10 Favorite Things About This Victorian Home for Sale in North Beacon Hill

I am so excited to share my love letter to this unique Seattle home. Thank you for joining me on a tour of the famous North Beacon Hill “Castle”! Here are my top 10 favorite things about this Victorian home for sale:

1. Rare Queen Anne-Style Victorian Home

North Beacon Hill Victorian Home Front Entry Living Area

This North Beacon Hill home is a rare Seattle example of Queen Anne-style Victorian architecture. This home was built in 1901 by the Smith Family, and it is oozing with all of the character that you might expect! A gracious arched front porch and memorable turret delight as soon as you arrive. The grand staircase and entryway make for a memorable first impression. And charming built-ins, millwork throughout, generous 10-foot ceilings, and recently refinished original Douglas fir wood floors are all in the mix!

2. “The Castle” is a Local Legend

This home is famous in the neighborhood! Our sellers shared with me that folks in the area refer to this home as “The Castle.” I just love that! It’s totally a fixture in the neighborhood. Roots here run deep and our sellers have felt grounded here, and grateful to be a part of the long history of this community. So, it’s no wonder that they poured love into keeping this Victorian in amazing shape.

3. The Sellers Made $200k+ in Upgrades in this Victorian Home for Sale

North Beacon Hill Victorian Home Kitchen Nook

My clients have really enjoyed living here, and they have done so much work to the home over the years! Maintaining and preserving the character of the home was super important to them. So was making significant investments in modern amenities. And when I say “significant,” I mean it—they spent over $200,000 to get things up to snuff. Updates have included new custom Anderson windows to preserve the period style of the home. Additional updates include electrical, high-end appliances, blown-in wall insulation, interior, and exterior paint, premium composite decking… and more. There is not much left to do. New owners just need to move in and love it!

4. Flowing, Circular Floor Plan Perfect for Entertaining

I know the owners of this home loved this circular floor plan. I also love that you have the flexibility to create a formal dining room if you want. And then you can use the other space as the den/family room. This home is just fabulous for entertaining in so many ways!

5. Remarkable Bedrooms

North Beacon Hill Victorian Home Front Bedroom

Ok, let’s start with the main front bedroom! Talk about great light. There’s a curved wall of windows and a beautiful view of the maple tree just outside the window. Another highlight is the very top floor of The Castle. The entire floor is the owner’s suite! There are 4 skylights in this space so it’s bright, even when it’s gray and rainy out. (There’s a view of Downtown Seattle. And you can even see fireworks at T-Mobile Park on a Mariners game day.) And don’t miss the huge, recently remodeled shower, the custom vanity, and the wall of closet space! I love this space as a primary suite, but it could also be super fun to have as an office. It’s so private and quiet, and I would love to work up here!

6. Picturesque Yard Space

The backyard is super accessible from the kitchen—French doors open up and lead to the deck and yard space. It’s perfectly set up for outdoor entertaining! The outdoor space is one of the features that sold my folks on this home since they have kids and pets. Finding a home with a decent-sized yard and a good-sized lot in an urban location was super important for them. And they totally found that in this home. They also loved that this home always felt quiet and private yet you are in one of the most pedestrian-friendly places in Seattle. This is such a great yard for garden parties or BBQs or just relaxing with some rosé!

7. This Victorian Home for Sale Offers a Sense of Privacy

North Beacon Hill Victorian Home Front Gate Front Yard

Imagine being in the heart of all of the activity in North Beacon Hill’s urban village, yet enjoying a private atmosphere! This home is tucked away and seated above street level. The home itself is at the center of the large lot, and there are even gated front and back entrances. Totally old school and in line with this home’s historical character! Other details like the beautiful landscaping and sound-dampening windows and insulation all enhance the oasis-like feel inside the home.

8. Highlights of the North Beacon Hill Neighborhood

Beacon Hill International Elementary School Mural

If you haven’t been to North Beacon Hill recently, it’s easy to forget how awesome this neighborhood truly is. In addition to all of the amazing restaurants and great community options (more on these in a moment!), the neighborhood has a few other big benefits. This Victorian is super close to Beacon Hill International Elementary School. This is one of the few coveted dual language immersion programs! It offers Spanish, Mandarin, and English language tracks. It’s a wonderfully supportive community for families and a real neighborhood gem!

I also think it’s a great idea to park up here if you’re going Downtown or to one of the stadiums. Just hop on the Link light rail at the Beacon Hill Station for a hassle-free commute into denser areas. It’s so much easier than having to drive into neighborhoods with basically no parking.

9. Close to Fantastic Dining Options in North Beacon Hill

Milk Drunk North Beacon Hill

Many people probably don’t think about North Beacon Hill as having award-winning dining, but it totally does. Spots like Musang, Restaurant Homer, and Bar del Corso will be hard to get a seat at (but it’s totally worth the wait). Other favorites include places like Perihelion Brewery, Fresh Flours, Carnitas Michoacan, Tacos Chukis, and Milk Drunk (yummy soft serve and fried chicken)! The Station Cafe, El Quetzal, and more. Also… according to The Stranger, the Shell Station here boasts the best-fried catfish in town. Really!!

10. So Many Convenient Commuting Options

Beacon Hill Light Rail Station

One of the top reasons why so many people love North Beacon Hill is its access to convenient community options. You can have a dream commute to pretty much anywhere your heart desires! The Beacon Hill Station is just a few blocks away; here you can hop on the Link light rail for a car-free, traffic-free commute. Go to the International District, the SODO stadiums, Downtown, Capitol Hill, University of Washington, and beyond. Or head south to Mount Baker, Columbia City, and SeaTac International Airport. There are also many buses and easy access to local highways!
