Serge is a quirky, soft spoken guy who likes to put on performances for his friends every Sunday at 6pm. They last about a 2-3 minutes and are basically mini-spectacles created from the weird stuff found in Serge’s minimalist bachelor pad. This is the concept behind Philippe Quesne & Vivarium Studio‘s new piece L’Effet de Serge. This show’s subtle humor and charm will keep you giggling quietly to yourself for days.
The amazing part about this performance is that it came close to never happening. A few weeks ago the folks from Vivarium Studio had their visas denied and were told that the decision would not change. The folks at On the Boards had to cancel all their advertising and the show. But – miracles of miracles – at the last minute, that decision was reversed and – the show was on! With no time to do any real advertising, the show opened last night to a packed OTB house and the energy and excitement was palpable.
L’Effet de Serge is one of the most enjoyable theatrical performances I have seen this year. It is worth the $25 and 75 minutes of your time. There should definitely still be tickets left but after last night’s reviews I’m sure they are going fast! Get them while you can.
